Back when I was a science student I used MS word (6, on Windows 3.1 no less) to draw chemical structures for my assignments and it was a pain. Real pain.
Now you have all kind of chemical structure drawing programs, free and not, and one is GChemPaint (which is GPL lisensed, by the way).
Man, students have it easy these days...
